My experience in education began in Fort McMurray, where I taught for 6 years before moving with my family to Spruce Grove in 1980. For the remaining 30 years before retirement, I worked as both a teacher and administrator with Parkland School Division. Over these 36 years, my interest in education has never waned. It is rewarding now, to see past students as parents and I am committed to seeing their children provided with the best educational opportunities possible.
I have a strong and supportive family, which includes my wife, Jane, and my two married daughters, Lisa, and Alison. Both daughters completed their education within the public schools of Spruce Grove. Those were incredibly memorable, rewarding, and enjoyable years in their educational journey. Both daughters moved on to attain degrees in Education and Nursing respectively, and later married and started their own families. To this day, both families, even though they live in Calgary and Edmonton, stay connected to their Spruce Grove friends. I now have four grandchildren, all in their primary years, and the time Jane and I spend with them provides a new perspective in our lives, and keeps us “young” and interested in our future generation.
Jane and I also believe in an active, healthy, and balanced lifestyle. This includes swimming, cross-country skiing, camping, biking, and attending a variety of cultural and theatre productions, as well as local events and activities.
I have completed two terms as Public School Board Trustee for Spruce Grove (4 years as Board Chair) and feel that I can provide the leadership and experience needed in this next term. My work on the board has been enriched by the culmination of 36 years in education and my philosophy that is rooted in the value of our community and the educational needs of our future generation.
